Pepper spray is an effective alternative in regards to choosing a personal protection deterrent. There are many reasons why pepper spray is the deterrent of choice aside from a stun gun or taser. For example, pepper spray has a prolonged effect of reducing the mobility of the attacker, it induces choking and coughing, and it causes a severe burning sensation when it comes in contact with the skin.
It does not get much easier in terms of use than being able to use Pepper Spray. All you have to do is aim it an attacker's face and press the button on the canister. A lot of people have been able to get out of dangerous situations because they used their self defense spray. The features of pepper spray are that it is easy to use, it is very effective, and it is simple. In comparison to other personal protection products pepper spray is just as, or in some cases, more, effective than a stun gun. With a stun gun your attacker will be disabled for several seconds because his muscle control is all screwed up. Also, you have to be TOUCHING your attacker with the stun gun for it to work. With pepper spray you can get models that will shoot the self defense spray anywhere from 8 to 20 feet! Compare the time frame that a stun gun gives you to escape to that of using pepper spray. With pepper spray your attacker will not be able to function effectively for up to a half hour. He will be temporarily blinded, he will be finding it difficult to breath and he will be choking. And, you have done all this without having to get real close to an attacker. You can stay 8 - 10 feet away and the pepper spray will still be effective. Most of us have had the misfortune of biting into a Hot Pepper thinking it was a sweet pepper. Remember your reactions? Your eyes started to water, your nose was running and your mouth was burning. Well, the same ingredient is used in pepper spray. It is called cayenne pepper. The concentration of cayenne pepper is much higher in pepper spray. When sprayed right in the face of someone trying to do harm to you that person will cease and desist immediately. Then you make your escape. Can you imagine rubbing an open hot pepper into your eyes? Multiply the effects a thousand times and you'll get a good idea of what an attacker will experience. First off the skin around his eyes will feel like somebody set him on fire. His eyes and surrounding skin will swell up and probably shut completely. He will not be able to see, which is a very good thing. That way you can make your exit from the area and he will not be able to see which way you went. The effect caused by pepper spray are not permanent, and most effects will start to clear within 30 minutes. There has been no reported casualties from the use of pepper spray as a deterrent, and no long term side effects have been detected as a result from it being sprayed into the face. Bottom line is that pepper spray is an effective, excellent choice when buying a self defense product. It works and it is the least expensive personal protection device that you can get. Effective, inexpensive, and easy to use make pepper spray a good buy!
