In addition, it's also necessary to select a course that you will get on well with, that matches your abilities and personality. You can learn anything from Microsoft User Skills up to Databases, Programming, Networking and Web Design. There is so much choice and so you'll probably need to discuss your requirements with an experienced advisor prior to making your choice: don't make a guess and start the wrong training for an area that you don't enjoy! State-of-the-art training techniques now allow students to be educated on a different type of course, that is much cheaper than more outdated courses. The economies of scale of these courses allows everybody access to them. Consider the following points carefully if you think that old marketing ploy of a guarantee for your exam looks like a reason to buy: It's very clear we're still paying for it - it's quite obvious to see that it's already in the overall figure from the course provider. Certainly, it's not a freebie - and it's insulting that we're supposed to think it is! If it's important to you to get a first time pass, you must avoid exam guarantees and pay when entering exams, give it the priority it deserves and give the task sufficient application. Don't you think it's more sensible to find the best exam deal or offer when you take the exam, instead of paying a premium to a college, and also to sit exams more locally - instead of miles away at the college's beck and call? Paying in advance for examination fees (plus interest - if you're financing your study) is insane. Resist being talked into filling the training company's account with additional funds only to please their Bank Manager! Many will hope you don't even take them all - so they get to keep the extra funds. In addition to this, 'Exam Guarantees' often aren't worth the paper they're written on. Many training companies will not pay for re-takes until you can prove to them you're ready to pass. Splashing out often many hundreds of pounds extra on an 'Exam Guarantee' is foolish - when consistent and systematic learning, coupled with quality exam simulation software is what will get you through. Many people question why academic qualifications are now falling behind more commercial certificates? Industry is of the opinion that for mastery of skill sets for commercial use, official accreditation from companies such as Adobe, Microsoft, CISCO and CompTIA is closer to the mark commercially - at a far reduced cost both money and time wise. They do this by honing in on the particular skills that are needed (alongside a relevant amount of related knowledge,) as opposed to spending months and years on the background non-specific minutiae that degrees in computing can get bogged down in - to pad out the syllabus. Put yourself in the employer's position - and you needed to take on someone with a very particular skill-set. Which is the most straightforward: Pore through loads of academic qualifications from various applicants, trying to establish what they know and which commercial skills have been attained, or select a specialised number of commercial certifications that specifically match what you're looking for, and draw up from that who you want to speak to. You can then focus on how someone will fit into the team at interview - rather than on the depth of their technical knowledge. The old fashioned style of teaching, using textbooks and whiteboards, is often a huge slog for most of us. If you're nodding as you read this, check out study materials that are multimedia based. Many years of research has repeatedly confirmed that becoming involved with our studies, to utilise all our senses, will more likely produce memories that are deeper and longer-lasting. Learning is now available in the form of CD and DVD ROM's, so everything is learned directly from your own PC. Through video streaming, you will be able to see the instructor presenting exactly how something is done, with some practice time to follow - via the interactive virtual lab's. It's wise to view a small selection of training examples before you hand over your cheque. The minimum you should expect would be instructor-led video demonstrations and interactive audio-visual sections with practice modules. Select CD and DVD ROM based physical training media whenever you can. Thus avoiding all the issues associated with broadband 'downtime' or slow-speeds. Authorised simulation materials and exam preparation packages are crucial - and must be supplied by your training company. Students regularly can get confused by trying to prepare themselves with questions that aren't from official sources. It's not uncommon that the question formats and phraseology is unfamiliar and it's important to prepare yourself for this. Obviously, it's very important to know that you've thoroughly prepared for your commercial exam prior to going for it.
